Bandung, Indonesia – September 2025 – Shrimp farming is one of Indonesia’s most promising aquaculture industries, but farmers continue to face devastating disease outbreaks that can wipe out entire ponds in just days. To tackle this critical challenge, CeKolam introduced its early pathogen detection solutions at the Aquaculture Innovation Forum and Expo (AIFE) 2025, reaffirming its mission to strengthen sustainable aquaculture in Indonesia.

Revata Utama, Founder and CEO of Nusantics, delivered a keynote session on “Early Detection of Pathogen Securing Farmers’ Investment”, highlighting the importance of shrimp disease prevention and the role of science-driven tools in protecting farmers’ productivity.

“Shrimp mortality can rise by 60–70% within just two to three days. That’s why we established CeKolam, Indonesia’s first independent laboratory for shrimp disease testing, to detect pathogens before symptoms appear. With reliable data, shrimp farmers can take fast, informed action and prevent major losses,” said Revata Utama.

Why Early Pathogen Detection Matters for Shrimp Farmers

Inconsistent harvest outcomes remain a persistent issue in shrimp aquaculture. Successful yields are often difficult to replicate, while failures tend to recur, driven by changing environmental conditions and undetected pathogens.

By adopting early pathogen detection technologies, shrimp farmers can:

  • Reduce the risk of disease outbreaks.

  • Protect long-term investments.

  • Improve farm productivity.

  • Build a more resilient and sustainable aquaculture business.

Four Core Shrimp Disease Detection Services from CeKolam

As the first independent shrimp disease testing lab in Indonesia, CeKolam offers four science-based services designed to support shrimp farm productivity and biosecurity:

  • PathoCheck – Rapid pathogen detection with Real-Time PCR and ShrimProtect reagents, featuring same-day results.

  • AquaCheck – Water microbiome mapping with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and expert bioinformatics analysis.

  • ProCheck – Probiotic quality and purity testing using NGS technology.

  • GutCheck – Gut microbiome monitoring to support shrimp growth and resilience across critical farming stages.

“With these services, shrimp farmers no longer have to rely on guesswork. Decisions can be based on accurate data—minimizing risks and securing sustainable harvests,” Revata added.

Strengthening Sustainable Aquaculture in Indonesia

CeKolam’s participation in AIFE 2025 went beyond showcasing new aquaculture technologies. It served as a platform to connect shrimp farmers, technology providers, businesses, and academia, ensuring that sustainable aquaculture solutions are accessible to all.

At its booth, CeKolam engaged visitors with live demonstrations and educational sessions, providing practical insights into shrimp disease management and productivity improvement.
